CHESS was created in 2000 jointly by Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet, with financial support from the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (FAS).
The CHESS board is led by Professor Nina Rehnqvist from The Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment (SBU). The board holds regular meetings, three times per year.
The terms for CHESS activity are regulated by an agreement between Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet. The first agreement (which also involved FAS) concerned the period 2000-2005 whereas the second covered 2006-2011. We are currently in the process of establishing a new agreement.
Centre for Health Equity Studies gathers both professorial staff, senior researchers and doctoral students. One of the main objectives is to promote postgraduate training in the field of health equity studies.
