Karl Gauffin is a postdoctoral researcher at CHESS with a background in public health and political science. His research interests include public health theory development and social determinants of health; childhood social inequality and its connection to alcohol related health inequalities in adulthood; and migration and health, global health and social justice.

Currently he is involved in the Nordic research project ‘Coming of Age in Exile’, which examines the social and health related development of young refugees in the Nordic countries.



2011- 2015:     PhD in public health sciences at Karolinska institutet, Stockholm. Thesis: ‘Embodiment of inequality: the translation of childhood social inequality to alcohol related health inequalities later in life’

2010-2011:     MSc in health inequalities and public policy at the University of Edinburgh
